oriol-low-res-3Pere and Imma began making goat cheese in 1989 with milk from their own herd at their farmhouse Montbrú in Moià (Barcelona). Their son Oriol has since taken over as cheesemaker. He decided to make buffalo milk cheeses after meeting Giuliano, an Italian (and former neighbor of our Italian buffalo milk cheese producer Quattro Portoni) who brought 1500 buffalo to L’Empordà Nature Reserve in Catalunya. Oriol’s eponymous cheese is bright and sweet, with a bit of tang. A Spanish complement to our line of Italian buffalo cheeses, this compact 45-day aged wheel has a light coating of blue-gray mold, similar to Garrotxa. 3/3#
