Cacao Sampaka Xoconusco Dark Chocolate Bar
This single origin 70% dark chocolate bar is made from a legendary variety of cocoa, Xoconusco Real Criollo from Chiapas, Mexico. For many years, it was a delicacy enjoyed exclusively by kings, but due to delicate trees that had a low yield, production nearly died out. Thankfully, its cultivation was revived in 2004 as a way to rescue this extremely rare varietal. The revival of this cocoa now benefits 2500 local families in the region of Chiapas. It is a chocolate with many subtleties; starting out fruity, it contains notes of raisin and tobacco, ending in a lingering, pleasantly bitter finish. Aiming to revive the rich chocolate culture of Spain, Cacao Sampaka makes exceptional chocolate bars with creative flair. They are involved in every stage of production, from selecting the beans from farmers to packaging the products. Through their partnership with the Cocoa Horizons Foundation, they strive to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities through the promotion of sustainable, entrepreneurial farming, improved productivity, and community development.
