It is now December and our warehouse is stocked with lots of incredibly special seasonal items for the upcoming holidays. Many of these products come around just once a year, so try these while you can!
Urepel: Our newest cheese comes from the Basque Country of France, right on the border of Spain. Production of this sheep’s milk cheese is limited to the months of December through July. It has a profile similar to Gruyère, but with more density – it’s not like anything we’ve tried before!
BirbaBlu: A brand new cow’s milk blue soaked in blonde ale and then finished with a blend of beer and malt on the rind of the cheese. This buttery cheese is from the Rosso family in Piemonte, Italy.
Luna Llena: A pudgy washed-rind cheese from Llorema at Quesos Ruperto. She makes the cheese with raw sheep’s milk and washes it during its 60 days of aging, resulting in a funky, intense cheese with lots of character.
Bettelmatt: Only available this time of year, this rare Alpine cheese is made from raw cow’s milk in the Val Formazza. Aged a minimum of 3 months, it is complex and beguiling with layers of wild herbs, butter, and hard boiled egg.
Panforte Mitica: An all-natural fruit and nut cake made with dried citrus, almonds, honey, and a blend of spices. It is dense, sticky, soft, and sweet – like a combination between cake and candy that is rich and extravagantly flavored.
Fontina d’Alpeggio: We get wheels of mountain Fontina Val d’Aosta from two specially selected farms every winter. They are made exclusively with the summer milk of Valdostana cows grazing on Alpine pastures at 1900+ meters.
Taleggio Bergamasco: A style of Taleggio common in Bergamo with a dry and craggy rind, rather than a pink, sticky, and stinky one. The inside paste is dense, creamy, and earthy.
BOM Organic Chestnut Honey: Roasted chestnuts are a common scent throughout the city streets of Europe. Evoke the holiday spirit with this dark and seductive honey from northern Portugal.
Ubriaco Pinot Rosé: What’s more festive than a rosé-soaked cheese coated in rose petals? Show your loved ones some love with this lightly fruity cow’s milk cheese that is a crowd pleaser.
Truffle Marconas: Marconas are decadent and buttery as it is, but add in truffle and you have a real treat worthy of the holidays.
Negroni: Make your cheese and cocktail pairing easy with this blue from Sergio Moro. Soaked in gin, bitter liqueur, and vermouth, it is topped with candied orange slices – picture perfect!
