Introducing The Drunken Goat® Reserva, a Special Edition Wine-Soaked Goat Cheese
January 29, 2025
We are thrilled to introduce The Drunken Goat® Reserva, a special limited edition of our bestselling wine-soaked goat cheese from the region of Murcia, Spain. After soaking in local Monastrell wine, the cheese is aged for ten months instead of the usual two, developing a firm texture and sophisticated flavor notes of ripe fruit, vanilla, and almond. Like the original, this version has a striking violet rind that stands out on a cheese board.
The Drunken Goat® Reserva is a collaboration between our company and our longtime producer Central Quesera Montesinos, based in Jumilla, Spain. Since they began importing the cheese, the original version of The Drunken Goat® has developed a large following and is sold in stores throughout the U.S. We have been working on a long-aged version of the cheese for several years.
Our history is closely tied with that of The Drunken Goat®, our brand of the Spanish DOP cheese Queso de Murcia al Vino. Michele Buster, co-founder of Forever Cheese, created the brand in 1996 to help sell the cheese and bring awareness to the region. She received an award from the government of Murcia for her efforts. Though The Drunken Goat® Reserva cannot be called a DOP cheese due to its long aging, it is made from the same Murciana goat’s milk, rich in fat and protein, and is soaked in the same red wine from the region, Monastrell.
“We’re so excited to extend The Drunken Goat® brand to a new extra-aged version of the cheese,” says Chelsea Bryant, Marketing Manager at Forever Cheese. “Our producer reserves a small number of the best wheels of The Drunken Goat® and after extended aging, it tastes like a buttery toasted baguette slathered with jam. It’s as approachable a goat cheese as ever, but elevated.”
